Just to update you on the exterior of the chapel at Allen Hall: The scaffolding has now been taken down and the ‘new’ crucifix has been ‘unveiled’.
‘New’ is in inverted commas because it has simply been put back in the very spot where it was originally hung in the 1950s (see my previous post here); and ‘unveiled’ because this happened without much ceremony: I’ve been away for a few days and when I came back the builders had just taken everything down. Maybe we will have a proper unveiling ceremony when the new academic year begins in September.
Take a look at the photos here. You get the best view from the top of the bus.

A close up of the new crucifix: it’s been hanging inside against the back wall of the sanctuary for the last few years
Very impressive. I bet the builders were keen to see how it looks!
Wow. Perfect with the architecture.
The word that springs to my mind is Majestic!
Hello, I have a theological question that I would be grateful for an answer to.
What is at the heart of Jesus’s Passion?
Am I right in believing that it isn’t the actual physical suffering on the Cross (important as that is).
Nor is it even the rejection of the historical figures leading up to and during the Cross (important as this is).
Nor is it even the spiritual pain which Jesus experiences by every sin of man throughout history (important as this is) which Jesus experiences during His Passion.
But the real pain – at the heart of it all – is the separation of Jesus from the Father when Jesus experiences what it is to be separated from the Father (separation due to man’s sin although of course Jesus is innocent of sin but takes on man’s sin to make up the shortfall of perfection needed for man for man to make it to Heaven – please God). That at the heart of Existence is the love within the Trinity – between the Three Persons, One God. That the first great separation Jesus’ experiences from the Father is when He becomes man. But the real separation – the real suffering occurs during the Passion and on the Cross.
Can someone please help me out here. Because I think I’m getting at the heart of Christianity and if so, something I should be contemplating and praying about everyday.
Thanks, Ed
forgiveness + Love over and over and over again.
Excellent!
