After all these months of blogging I have a certain brand-loyalty to WordPress, which is the free platform I use. It’s interesting to hear that they have just passed the milestone of 200 million posts published on WordPress.com (so this does not include all the self-hosted blogs using WordPress software).

The news page took me to this WordPress tags page, which shows you the most popular tags used on recent posts. It gives you a snapshot of the areas that interest WordPress bloggers at the moment; and so it is one way of seeing into the mind of the contemporary culture. It shows you not what people are searching for (cf. the stats from Google), but what they are bothering to post about.
Here are the tags this Saturday lunchtime, in order of how many posts are placed in each category:

Hello Fr Stephen,
This is a fascinating list inasmuch that I didn’t know so many people might have interests in so many diverse topics! I confess there are one or two I have never even heard of although I like to think of myself as reasonably broad minded and educated in the ‘University of Life’.
I think you have discussed a good many of these in your posts and to good effect as they have prompted my interest and, at times, spurred me on to do further reading. I am sure I am not alone in this.
Long may you continue with this!
Interesting! As a blogger (for about a year now) I’ve been struggling with ways to increase my readership. I’m an author with faith-based historical adventure series for kids. And a novel of suspense. Got picked up by an agent, (she loves both projects) but she says I need 50-thousand hits before a “big” publisher will be interested. YIKES! Only have 3-thou now. Will welcome new tips!!!!!
